Gina is timid, non-confrontational and loves her husband whereas Gwen is strong, not afraid to get in your face, and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her husband as far away from her and her kids as possible. I really liked how you got to see Gina at the beginning on the day of the accident and how completely different she is from Gwen. Like I said above, Rachel Caine is my favorite author so I knew I was in for a treat with Stillhouse Lake. I was absolutely glued to the pages from start to finish! It was such a thrill ride filled with creepy characters, beautiful descriptions of the town, and a wonderful unknown feeling that I couldn't get enough of. One thing is for sure, she knows how to fight evil now, and she won't ever stop.īoy oh boy did I absolutely love this book. Keeping your friends close and your enemies closer is difficult when you can't tell who is who, but Gwen is willing to do whatever she has to in order to keep her kids safe. But just as she's getting used to the idea of calling Stillhouse Lake home, a body turns up in the lake and threatening letters start turning up from a familiar address. Now living in Stillhouse Lake, and keeping a constant watchful eye on the plethora of internet trolls and stalkers, Gwen thinks that her kids can finally grow up in peace. Four years later, Gina Royal is now Gwen Proctor- warrior mom.

That is, until a car crashes into the side of her house and reveals her husband's secret life as a serial killer. Gina Royal is an average midwestern housewife with two kids she loves and a relatively happy marriage. Stillhouse Lake is creepy and thrilling and keeps you guessing until the end and by that point, you're on the edge of your seat rooting for Gwen as hard as you can. Seriously, Rachel Caine is my favorite author and I have yet to read anything by her that isn't absolutely fantastic.

Taking a moment to be super unprofessional but oh my gosh Rachel Caine has a new book and it's fantastic and I will forever cherish the beautiful ARC that I refuse to put anywhere but on my desk next to me.
